Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U. S. teens. Driving is dangerous, but to a driver who scans, recognizes and reacts to potential hazards, accidents can be avoided. That’s the concept of Hazard Recognition – SCAN, RECOGNIZE AND REACT.

Experienced drivers know that children will step out between parked cars, distracted drivers are erratic, impatient drivers will pull in front of you without warning, and that some drivers do not stop at red lights. Parents must help teens to learn to recognize these hazards when they first get behind the wheel and not rely on their teens developing that experience over their first ten years of driving.

Hazard Recognition means visually scanning the environment, identifying hazards and reacting appropriately. This may sound easy to parents but for new drivers, it is nearly impossible without training.

This DVD is divided into multiple segments and is designed to be watched many times so young drivers can practice identifying hazards and learning appropriate reactions.

Adults, teens and pre-teens can use the enclosed checklist to observe other drivers prior to getting behind the wheel.
